Prayer for the Internet

Almighty and eternal God, who created us in Thy image and bade us to seek after all that is good, true and beautiful, especially in the divine person of Thy Only-begotten Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, grant, we beseech Thee, that, through the intercession of Saint Isidore, Bishop and Doctor, during our journeys through the internet we will direct our hands and eyes only to that which is pleasing to Thee and treat with charity and patience all those souls whom we encounter. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Parent Partnership Program

In the fall of 2011, representatives from the State of Florida's Tax Credit Scholarship Program - Step Up for Students - invited ICS to become part of a pilot program to establish a partnership between parents and schools. The Catholic Church teaches that parents are the primary educators of their child(ren). Therefore, working to establish a program that enhanced the relationship between home and school at ICS would benefit our students. So, in January of this year, ICS faculty began meeting with a representative from Step Up for Students to outline and establish this partnership program at ICS. While we are still in the developmental stage of this process, much good work is being done to solidify the partnership that must exist among parents, teachers and students in order for students to be successful. More details will be coming as we continue this initiative.

Incarnation Program Updates

myON READER: Hillsborough County has recently piloted a program aimed at improving literacy across our county. An on-line program with over 2,000 electronic books in its "library", this program matches student interest to their reading level. It can measure time spent reading, monitor the number of books opened and read and forecast reading growth. ICS will be participating in this e-reading tool. Hopefully we will have information available for you to use this program over the summer. At the latest, we will begin implementation of it in the fall of 2012. Expect more details before we break for summer.

FOCUS Observations: Your students may have reported to you that Mr. Zelenka and Mr. DellaPorta have been conducting short, pop-in evaluations on teachers over the past few months. These informal observations are a part of a diocesan-wide effort to gain knowledge about instructional trends at not only the building level (ICS) but also at schools across the diocese (all Catholic Schools in the Diocese of St. Petersburg). The information compiled will be used to offer data upon which professional development opportunities for teachers will be chosen. In many ways, the observations thus far have validated the good work being done in our classrooms every day while also providing further direction for areas of improvement. We look forward to continuing to use this school improvement tool.

iPads: As part of the FOCUS training that Mrs. Zelenka and Mr. DellaPorta attended (see FOCUS OBSERVATIONS above), ICS received two iPads for our Administrative implementation of that program (there is an App for classroom observations!). This upcoming week, three of our teachers will participate in training made available through Title I funds that will not only offer professional development in differentiated instruction, but also gift our school with three iPads. These iPads will be housed in our computer lab next year and will be incorporated into our Information and Communication Technology classes for student use.
